We are delighted to announce the appointment of Grishma Bista as the new Executive Officer of MSI Asia Pacific.
A familiar name to many across the partnership, Grishma steps into the role with a wealth of experience in sexual and reproductive health and rights, and a deep commitment to the communities MSI serves. She brings more than a decade of leadership in international development, including four years as Country Director of MSI Timor-Leste, as well as work with Care International, Oxfam and the International Women’s Development Agency. Most recently, she served as a valued member of the MSI Asia Pacific Board.
Reflecting on her time in Timor-Leste, Grishma describes her leadership journey as one of challenge, transformation, and growth. “Reproductive health has always been a passion of mine. What makes MSI unique is how it combines a public health mission with a business mindset. That combination pushes you to think critically, to innovate, and to always keep the end goal—client care—front and centre.”
During her time as Country Director of MSI Timor-Leste, Grishma led the team through unprecedented times, including the height of the Covid-19 pandemic. During her tenure as Board Member, she has also been instrumental in the development of strategies and sound governance that reflect the complex environments in which MSI operates, while striving for greater impact.
Known for her thoughtful leadership, cross-cultural fluency, and deep understanding of community-based service delivery, Grishma brings an unwavering commitment to rights-based care.
“[Sexual and reproductive health and rights] are a key foundation for everything, a fundamental building block for everything we do,” she says. “Whatever your orientation, when you know your body and your rights … You make better decisions for yourself and others when you’re equipped with the information you need.”
Grishma will step into her new role in mid-May after transitioning from her Board position. Fluent in Nepali, English, Hindi and Tetun, she brings with her a regional perspective and a global outlook.

“Taking on the role of Executive Officer is a continuation of the work I’ve been proud to do with MSI,” Grishma says. “It’s about building on what we know works, while pushing ourselves to be bolder, braver, and more responsive to the changing contexts in which we operate. I’m excited to work with our incredible partners and teams across Asia and the Pacific to ensure we remain client-centred, values-led, and impact-driven.”
