Globally, there are 218 million women without access to modern contraception. This has led to a healthcare crisis. At MSI we provide women and girls with safe, effective contraception services, so they can choose when or whether to have children and have a better chance to reach their full potential.

Our services aren’t simply about preventing pregnancies – we believe it’s also about empowering women through choice. Having a choice about the number of children she has, and when she has them, can transform a woman’s life. It means being able to continue with education, pursue a career, care for the children she already has, or simply space her pregnancies to improve her own health.

And those benefits won’t stop there – when a woman has access to this vital healthcare she and her children are usually healthier, better educated and have better economic prospects. This in turn can transform whole societies as women are freed up to participate more fully in their communities and contribute to the economy.

Our work is generously supported by the Australia Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, under the Australian NGO Co-operation Program and the Gender Equity Fund.

Contraception

This includes long-acting reversible contraception methods such as the implant, injection or IUD; short term contraception, including the oral contraceptive pill, condoms and emergency contraception; and permanent contraception, including tubal ligation for women and vasectomy for men. The vast majority of our clients choose permanent or long-acting methods of contraception and in many of the countries where we work, MSI Asia Pacific is the only provider of these methods.

Safe abortion and post-abortion care

Safe abortion and post-abortion care

In the countries where we are legally permitted to do so, we help women to safely end their pregnancies. By providing services to women when and where they need them, we can reduce the number of women that are forced to resort to unsafe abortions, risking their health and in some cases their life.

Other sexual and reproductive health services

These include providing specialist family planning providers in post-natal hospital wards, contraception counselling and sex education. In some places, we also provide cervical cancer screening, STD testing and other health services, including antenatal and maternity care.
