For over a decade, Begizesh has been a dedicated team member at MSI Ethiopia, offering compassionate counselling and care to every woman who walks through her clinic doors. Her mission? To make sure that every woman understands her options and feels empowered to choose what’s right for her.
“When you use contraception, you think of your life plan; you use it to achieve your goals,” she told us. “It’s good for a mother’s health, her future, and for economic reasons too.”
Begizesh sees firsthand the transformative power of choice. She’s witnessed how access to contraception and safe abortion care has changed lives – and saved them.
“I can say that the rate of unsafe abortion has decreased,” she said. “In the past, I saw women using traditional medicine to end pregnancies, and some lost their lives. But not anymore. Now it’s improving, because safe services are available.”
Begizesh is proud of the work she does. As a mother of daughters, she knows how important it is for women to have information and support.
“…the rate of unsafe abortion has decreased. In the past, I saw women using traditional medicine to end pregnancies, and some lost their lives. But not anymore. Now it’s improving, because safe services are available.”
“I love my job. When you help these girls and mothers, you feel satisfied. There are no words to explain the relief you see. That is what motivates me, above everything.”
Thanks to your support, women in Begizesh’s community are not only planning their families – they’re shaping brighter futures. With the ability to choose if or when to have children, families are becoming more financially stable, investing in education, and living healthier lives.
“I’ve seen this for myself, with my relatives and neighbours who use family planning. It’s also helped me provide for my kids.”
Change is happening fast. Sexual and reproductive health information is no longer hidden in Begizesh’s community. It’s shared openly in schools, in the media, and in everyday conversations.
“Now the time is good. Young people talk about it. It’s not a secret anymore.”
Begizesh’s story is one of countless examples of how access, education, and compassionate care can change lives.
Thank you for standing with us—and with women like Begizesh—on the journey toward reproductive choice for all.
