The right to control our own bodies is under attack.
Around the world, extremist groups are working together- spreading lies, intimidating healthcare providers, and pushing governments to strip away reproductive rights. Recent rollbacks in the US have emboldened anti-rights groups globally.
We’re seeing a rise in anti-abortion activity across the world.
We surveyed all 36 of MSI’s country programs to reveal just how coordinated and dangerous this movement has become. MSI teams reported attacks from various groups and individuals including lawsuits, clinic police raids, smear campaigns, and threats against staff and clients.
Over 80% of MSI’s country programs reported coordinated attacks on reproductive rights.
In Ethiopia, anti-choice activists park outside clinics, urging the government to follow the US in rolling back abortion rights. In Mexico, women seeking care are harassed at clinic doors. In Nepal, anti-rights groups are fuelling stigma through misinformation and religious messaging.
Standing strong in the face of attacks
This isn’t just happening somewhere else—it’s happening everywhere. And if we don’t fight back, we risk losing decades of progress.
The experiences shared by our frontline teams serve as an important reminder that our rights cannot be taken for granted and we must continue to fight hard to protect them.
But there is hope. MSI is building a network of allies and champions that are working together to build resilience to withstand anti-rights attacks. Together, we can be bolder in our defence of rights, and be prepared for future political changes and attacks.
