Celebrating a new era of transparency in international development

This week, the Australian Government takes a significant step toward ensuring a more transparent, accountable, and impactful international development program. MSI Asia Pacific welcomes the launch of the AusDevPortal and the recommencement of International Aid Transparency Initiative (IATI) reporting—two vital milestones in realising a development approach that prioritises accountability and impact.

Unlocking unprecedented access to development data

The AusDevPortal is a transformative platform that provides detailed, searchable data on over 900 Official Development Assistance (ODA) projects from the 2022–23 financial year, representing $4.78 billion in investments across 122 countries. For the first time, Australians and international partners have access to comprehensive insights into the scale, scope, and performance of Australia’s aid initiatives.

The portal offers information on:

– Project descriptions

– Geographic locations

– Annual expenditure and total investment values

– Policy markers and performance scores

– Key documents such as project evaluations and design reports

This unparalleled level of detail fosters greater visibility and confidence in Australia’s ODA program. By making critical information accessible to governments, civil society, and implementing partners, the portal empowers all stakeholders to engage more effectively in shaping development outcomes.

Transparency as a cornerstone of effective development

Transparency is fundamental to ensuring that development efforts deliver meaningful, measurable results for the communities they serve. The AusDevPortal and IATI reporting re-establish Australia’s alignment with global benchmarks, demonstrating a commitment to accountability and best practices.

Enhanced transparency is complemented by new mechanisms, such as the Performance and Delivery Framework (PADF) and the Performance of Australian Development Cooperation (PADC) report. Together, these tools form a robust accountability system that allows for ongoing evaluation and refinement of Australia’s development initiatives.

Data helps us to ensure we’re reaching the right communities with the right healthcare and support.

MSI Asia Pacific: Driving change through data

At MSI Asia Pacific, we recognise that transparency and data are the foundation of impactful, evidence-driven action. In line with the Australian Government’s commitment, we continue to prioritise:

Data-driven decision-making: By integrating performance data into program design and evaluation, we ensure that our work responds directly to the needs of the most underserved populations across the Asia and Pacific regions.

Collaborative partnerships: Transparency fosters trust. We work hand-in-hand with governments, donors, and communities to align resources, share insights, and maximise impact.

Continuous learning: Through transparent data-sharing, we refine our practices, scale innovative solutions, and contribute to a global dialogue on best practices in sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR).

Looking ahead

The launch of the AusDevPortal marks a turning point for Australia’s international development program, setting a high standard for openness and accountability.

Transparency enables transformation. By harnessing the power of data, we can build stronger partnerships, deliver greater impact, and ensure that every person has the opportunity to make informed decisions about their health, futures and families.
