The Modern Matriarch: How Kalawati Champions Love, Freedom and Choice

MSI India Client, Kalawati shares how love and freedom are important to her as head of her family and expresses her unwavering support of family planning.

In the bustling city of Jaipur, India, 57-year-old Kalawati is the glue that holds her family together. As the proud head of a bustling household, she’s raised three children and now lives with her husband, sons, daughters-in-law, and grandchildren. Her warmth and progressive outlook make her the heart of the household.

Kalawati accompanied her eldest daughter-in-law, Khushboo, to the Jaipur MSI clinic for a permanent contraception procedure – tubal ligation.

With two children – a boy and a girl – Khushboo felt her family was complete, and Kalawati couldn’t be more supportive. “Family planning is essential for a happy and healthy life,” Kalawati says, reflecting on her own sterilisation years ago.

At the clinic, Kalawati waited for her daughter in law by relaxing in the sunlit waiting area, enjoying the winter sun and chatting warmly with other women.

She is full of praise for the clinic’s cleanliness, courteous staff, and efficient process. “The doctors here are experienced, and we didn’t have to wait unnecessarily,” she notes.

Kalawati isn’t just a supporter of family planning—she’s its biggest advocate. She plans to recommend the clinic to everyone she knows, making sure her community has access to the same care. Back at home, she’s ready to help Khushboo recover, teaming up with the family to take care of things while Khushboo rests.

What’s clear in everything Kalawati does is her love for her family. “My daughters-in-law are like my own daughters,” she says proudly. In her household, women are respected and supported to make their own choices. For Kalawati, family planning isn’t just about health—it’s about creating a future filled with freedom, respect, and love.

Her words sum it up perfectly: “A healthy family is a happy family.”
